Why did Im Junhyeok have to leave DAY6?

DAY6 is a South Korean all-male rock band signed under JYP Entertainment.

They used to have 6 members, hence the name DAY6 but their sixth member Junhyeok left the group in 2016.

Outline

The band was formed all the way in 2010, but the members changed a few times before a set lineup was created.

Some of the members became known to the public through musical programs.

Dowoon

They were meant to debut with 5 members initially, calling themselves 5LIVE, but another member was soon added, the drummer Dowoon who is currently the band’s drummer.

With the addition of Dowoon, the band changed the name to DAY6 and released their first album in September 2015.

DAY6’s EPs “The Day” and “Daydreaming” ended up in the Top 10 of the South Korean charts, while “The Day” was number 2 in the US Billboard chart upon its release in September 2015.

They are currently active and performing mostly around South Korea and occasionally in USA.

Im Junhyeok

The member Im Junhyeok was the keyboardist and vocalist for DAY6.
He was one of the original members that was meant to debut with the group, while the group was still practicing to debut under the name 5LIVE.

Junhyeok’s departure from the band left the fans in shock, but it was stated that he terminated his contract with JYP and left for personal reasons.

Around the end of 2015, Junhyeok was involved in a scandal regarding him and a fan with whom he flirted through his social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.

Screenshots of his flirtations have emerged, and it was rumored that he and the girl he was flirting with were actually dating.

This was a scandal in a sense, since JYP contracts ban their rookies from dating for the first 3 years after their debut; he breached the contract if the dating rumors were true, but if not, then he was forced to terminate it and leave because of media pressure and netizens.

Junhyeok was surrounded by rumors of transferring to N.Flying since his departure from DAY6, but that turned out not to be true for now.
